How to Apply.

The summer 2026 program will be run in person at Boston University.Monday, June 8th through Friday, July 10th, 2026, participants will be in-residence at Boston University. Monday, July 13th through mid-August 2026, participants will continue working remotely on their research project. Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis, with higher priority given to applications received before March, 2026.

Applications for the 2025 BU SIBS Program are now closed.

Current undergraduate students and recent graduates majoring in mathematics, science or other quantitatively oriented areas of study are eligible. Applicants must be American citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Four college credits will be earned by students who successfully complete the program. There are no tuition costs associated with participation in the Summer Institute in Biostatistics. A stipend may be provided.

Application Process

Applications should be completed electronically*. Complete application must include the following:

  1. Application form: must be submitted online. Applications are open as of  December 2025.
    • Please note: Once you start the application it cannot be saved. Please read through the instructions and have all components ready (e.g. personal statement) before you begin the application.
  2. A brief personal statement of interest (included in application form)
  3. Current college transcripts. (included in application form) – if you have issues uploading, please send them to sibs@bu.edu .
  4. Two letters of recommendation. Please instruct your recommenders to submit the letters by email to sibs@bu.edu. Please note: Emailed letters of recommendation must be sent directly from the person writing the recommendation; they may not be sent from the applicant’s email account. Letters of recommendation submitted by mail should be in a sealed envelope, signed across the seal by the person who wrote the recommendation. Letters of recommendation must come from an instructor/professor who can attest to your academic work. Letters from professionals who have supervised you in internships or research opportunities related to statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, data analysis, etc. are also acceptable.
