Professor’s Work Featured in New York Times Magazine Cover Story.

thumbnail-rothman-emilyEmily Rothman, associate professor of community health sciences, is featured prominently in The New York Times Magazine cover story, “What Teenagers Are Learning from Online Porn,” published on February 11, 2018. The article details her research into dating violence and adolescent porn use, as well as her work in creating Porn Literacy, a high school course for Boston students born out of Start Strong: Building Health Teen Relationships, a peer-leadership program for teenagers funded by the Boston Public Health Commission.

Nicole Daley (SPH’08), former director of Start Strong and current director of engagement and evaluation for the One Love Foundation, is also featured in the piece.

    I am a health & sexuality teacher in Portland, Oregon and have been trying to find a porn literacy curriculum for my students. I have been creating my own lessons the past few years, but would love to get my hands on a culturally responsive, best practice curriculum. I am really happy to see all the press as of late surrounding porn literacy (NYT & The Guradian mostly), but I am having an awful time tracking down someone I can try and purchase curriculum from or receive lessons from.
    Any help you can provide me would be wonderful. I am passionate about all things related to teaching our students progressive, comprehensive sex ed and about health relationships.
