Goldstein Comments on China’s Influence in the Indo-Pacific

Erik Goldstein, Professor of International Relations and History at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was interviewed by La Razón on China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific.

Goldstein was asked to comment on whether China a serious threat to the security and stability in the Indo Pacific ocean, China’s allies in the region, as well as China’s growing military and how it will have a destabilizing effect in the region.

A translated excerpt:

Which may be the new and stronger allies of Beijing in the Indo Pacific region?

China seems to be trying to follow this policy without any major allies. It may be able to acquire smaller allies through financial support. No regional states are comfortable with China’s current assertive foreign policy.
