Gender-Neutral Housing in the summer

If you are at least 18 years old and living on campus for the summer, you are eligible for Gender-Neutral Housing. Eligible students are welcome to request to live with students of any gender for the duration of their summer stay. Summer students interested in Gender-Neutral Housing should be aware of the following guiding principles:

  • Only students who actively sign up for Gender-Neutral Housing and have specific mutual gender-neutral roommate requests that fill the designated room, suite or apartment will be placed in a mixed gender living situation. No student will be placed in a gender-neutral room, suite or apartment without their consent
  • You are welcome to specifically request another student to live with you in Gender-Neutral Housing. In order for the request to be considered, all students involved must mutually request to live with each other and agree to live in Gender-Neutral Housing on their summer applications. Additionally, gender-neutral roommate requests must fill all available bed spaces in a room or apartment in order to be considered
  • You are not expected nor required to share your reasons for wanting to live in Gender-Neutral Housing
  • The laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts guide assignments for transgender students

We cannot always guarantee any specific requests for summer housing due to space availability concerns, but will do our best to fulfill them. If you have questions about Gender-Neutral Housing during the summer, please contact the Summer Housing Manager at housing@bu.edu or 617-353-3511.
