Eligibility

The Medical Student Residence is only guaranteed for first-year MD students. Upper-class MD students currently living in MSR who are interested in returning for the 2025-2026 term session will be able to declare their intent on the Graduate Housing Portal. Students will be selected to return in a randomly generated lottery process. 

Upper-class MD students not currently living in MSR will be contacted by the Student Affairs Office (SAO) at the BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine with options for declaring intent.

Application Process

The application consists of two parts:

1. Declare your Intent to Return to MSR

2. Select your Same Unit
 

 

 

 If selected in the lottery, you will need to:

  1. Submit a nonrefundable $500 Housing Guarantee Payment using a credit card or a US bank account.
  2. Complete all sections of the application in the portal.
  3. Select your same unit.
  4. Electronically sign the Graduate Residence License Agreement.

Once you have successfully completed the application, you will see your assignment details on the “Application Status” page in the MSR Application.

Roommate Requests

If you wish to live with another returning MSR resident:

  • Our office will reach out to collect requests later in the summer.
  • Both you and your preferred roommate must request each other in order to be considered.
  • At least one of you must have a vacancy in your current unit.

Note: Requests for relocating both residents to a new MSR unit are not accepted.

Charges

If you successfully renew your housing, you will receive two charges for the month of July:

  1. The first charge will be half of the 2024-2025 term session monthly rate (posted in late June).
  2. The second charge will be half of the 2025-2026 term session monthly rate (posted in mid July).

Procedures

You will not need to move-out at any point between agreement terms. Your current agreement for the 2024-2025 term session will end on July 15, 2025, and your new agreement will begin on July 16, 2025.

Policies (For MSR Residents Only)

  • Any request for the termination of the Graduate Residence License Agreement must be submitted in writing to BU Housing at least thirty (30) days in advance of the requested termination date.
  • Licenses may only be terminated on the last day the month.
  • BU Housing will notify Licensee in writing if such request is granted, which decision shall be made in BU Housing’s sole discretion.
  • If this premature License termination results in a loss to the University, the total fee obligations to the University will not exceed two months fees.
  • Failure to vacate the premises on the agreed-upon date will result in an additional $100.00 charge for every day the Licensee remains in residence.
