Summer Room Change Requests for the Academic Year
First-year and transfer students new to BU in the fall are not eligible for room changes until after their arrival for the fall semester.
Room change requests are accepted following the Room Selection Process for the next academic year. Students submitting a Room Change Request form will be contacted during the summer only if an option for a new assignment becomes available; most room change offers will be made in June, July, and August. Direct swaps are not permitted during the summer.
The Room Change Request form may be accessed in the My Housing portal starting on the dates listed below:

General Information
If you are initiating your room change request for medical preferences, please note that Disability & Access Services is responsible for evaluating and granting reasonable accommodation requests for disability-related accommodations. Students must request housing-related accommodations based on current medical, mental health, or food related disabilities through Disability & Access Services at least 60 days prior to move-in. Information about the requested registration process is available through the DAS website.
Roommate requests must be mutual. Each student seeking a room change must submit a room change request on the housing portal. Each student must include the BU ID number(s) of the roommate(s) they request. If one student makes a roommate request and the other student does not, the roommate request will not be honored.
If students are interested in a room change into a Living-Learning or Specialty Communities, they must first apply and receive approval to live in that specific residence before a change can be offered. After the application is submitted, an e-mail approving or declining the application will be sent; BU Housing will also be notified of the decision.
If a request for a room change can be granted, notification will be by telephone or e-mail at the telephone number or e-mail address provided on the Room Change Request Form. We will attempt to reach students on two different days before cancelling the offer; once the offer is extended, students will have 24 hours to respond. BU Housing is not responsible for messages left on answering machines or voice mail systems that are not relayed or received, or for cancelling an offer if you do not respond in the time allotted. You will only be contacted if an option for new assignment becomes available for you.
Because of variable residence rates, the residence rate for a new assignment offered may be more expensive than the present assignment. Students are responsible for payment of the higher rate for the new accommodation as stated in the Residence License Agreement and detailed in the academic year residence and dining plan rate schedule.
Room changes between traditional-style and apartment-style residences will result in changes in dining plan status. Students assigned to a traditional-style residence are required to be on a dining plan. Students who change from a traditional-style to an apartment-style residence will be removed from their dining plan and should contact the Terrier Card Office if they wish to remain on a dining plan.
All room change requests are subject to availability of space.
