CAS: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB)

Sample Pathway

Below is an example of a four-year plan of a College of General Studies student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). Students will work with their CGS academic advisors and the Department of Biology to plan their own pathway to a biochemistry and molecular biology degree.

Gap Semester Recommended external course: General Chemistry I (equivalent to CAS CH 101)* Note: Prior approval must be granted for external coursework. Students must consult with their CGS academic advisor before enrolling in classes.

*Please note that the order of topics in chemistry courses depends strongly on the book, the professor, and the pace of the course. There are also other ways to fulfill the General Chemistry I and II sequence. For more information and suggestions, please consult with your CGS academic advisor.

**CAS CH 201, a 2-credit quantitative lab course offered in spring and summer terms, is required for graduation if taking CAS CH 101 and CAS CH 102 for the BMB major.

***Or CAS CH 204. If taking CAS CH 204, CAS CH 220, a 2-credit qualitative lab course offered in spring or summer terms, is required for graduation.

^Or alternative courses CAS BI 203 or CAS BI 206.

^^Choose your electives carefully to fulfill any remaining BU Hub requirements. You will find a list of all of the courses that carry Hub requirements on the University’s BU Hub website. External courses are not eligible for Hub general education credit.
