Heine Discusses US-Chile FTA

On August 11, 2023, Amb. Jorge Heine, Research Professor at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies and Interim Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, published a column in Latin American Advisor discussing the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the United States and Chile. 

Heine largely argued the merits of the FTA, writing that the “U.S.-Chile FTA is Exhibit A of the fact that, contrary to the current conventional wisdom, FTAs between the United States and Latin American countries can be a win-win proposition.” Citing benefits like increasing bilateral trade and investment and increased financial opportunities, Heine attributed the success of the FTA to continued goodwill between both countries.
