Center for the Study of Asia Welcomes New Assistant Director

The Center for the Study of Asia (CSA), an affiliated center at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, has hired a new Assistant Director: Dr. Maria Elena P. Rivera-Beckstrom.

Rivera-Beckstrom has published research on Philippine history, politics and legal culture, and women in organizations; she has also taught and continues to teach sociology and socio-legal studies with comparative Asian dimensions at several universities, including Emerson College and Salem State University. She was also a Visiting Assistant Professor at Bowdoin College and the University of Illinois Springfield. Rivera-Beckstrom also has extensive academic administration experience and was a Coordinator and Research Associate at Simmons University.

In her role as Assistant Director, Rivera-Beckstrom will help CSA Director and Pardee School Professor of Anthropology and International Relations Robert Hefner in organizing the center’s academic and programmatic offerings. She brings a wealth of administrative experience and vision to CSA, and we are excited to welcome her to the Pardee School team.
