Najam Discusses Evolving Situation in Afghanistan & Taliban Governance
Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, appeared on Hum News‘ “Breaking Point with Malick” to discuss the ever changing situation in Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul and its attempts to form a government.
In his remarks, Najam noted that while the Taliban surprised the world with how fast they were able to take control of the country, it should be remembered that it came not at the end of a fight but because of the United States’ departure from Afghanistan and and the failings of former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. Najam pointed out that while getting control of Kabul might have been easy for the Taliban, keeping control has never been easy for anyone. Now the Taliban are bound to face the same type of governance challenges that Afghan leaders over the past 40 years have faced.
