Mako Discusses Upcoming Book on Ufahamu Africa
Shamiran Mako, Assistant Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, appeared on the Ufahamu Africa podcast to discuss her upcoming book After the Arab Uprisings: Progress and Stagnation in the Middle East and North Africa.
In the interview with host Rachel Beatty Riedl, Director of the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies and John S. Knight Professor of International Studies at Cornell University, Mako and co-author Valentine Moghadam, Professor of Sociology and International Affairs at Northeastern University, discuss their exploration of democracy and social transformation in North Africa after the Arab Spring. The two talk about the six years of research leading up to the book and explain the four key frameworks of their analysis: state and regime type, civil society, gender relations and women’s mobilizations, and external influence.
