On February 23, 2021, Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, delivered remarks during an event hosted by the Climate Reality Project on the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Fund bill (Massachusetts Senate Bill SD 1515; House Bill HD 1865).

The event featured remarks from Massachusetts State Senator Mike Barrett and Massachusetts State Representative Tony Cabral as well as representatives from the LDC Group and Climate Reality. Speakers discussed SD 1515/HD 1865, which would create a voluntary checkoff on state tax returns, so residents can choose to help the world’s most vulnerable countries cope with global climate change.

In his remarks, Najam noted that the bill is a policy innovation that allows local action to link directly with global impact. He said this will particularly help those who are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, suffering the greatest consequences, and – as a result – most in need of climate action.
