Najam Interviewed on Oil Price Shock
Prof. Adil Najam, dean of the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University and professor of international relations and earth and environment, was interviewed by the Pakistan TV news show NewsWise on DawnTV on April 21, 2020, on the sudden drop of global crude oil prices into negative territory.
Najam pointed out that the turbulence in oil markets had preceded the current COVID-19 crisis and would nearly certainly last beyond it. However, he stressed, that the enormity of the COVID-19 moment has changed the nature and implications of what is happening in the oil markets. “It is, now,” he said, “a supply as well as a demand challenge.” The interview also focused on the geopolitical and geoeconomics implications of this crisis, not just for the major players – Saudi Arabia, Russia and USA – but for the rest of the world.
Adil Najam is the Inaugural Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University and was the former Vice Chancellor of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Read more about him here
