Eckstein Interviewed by AP on Deportation Risks for Cubans
Susan Eckstein, Professor of International Relations and Sociology at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was recently interviewed for a widely-syndicated article on how deportation risks for Cubans living in the United States could change under President Donald Trump.
Eckstein was quoted a June 15, 2017 article in the Associated Press entitled “Cubans Now Face Same Deportation Risk as Other Immigrants.” The article appeared in several outlets including in the The New York Times.

Susan Eckstein, a sociology professor at Boston University, argues that Cubans’ immigration privileges should end to make immigration policy more equitable for all foreign nationals.
“I would be very surprised if Trump changes Obama’s policy because it is so consistent with his stance on immigration in general,” she said.
Eckstein’s main focus is on Latin America. She has written most extensively on Mexico, Cuba, and Bolivia. Currently, she is working on immigration and its impact across borders. She recently published a sole-authored book on Cuban Americans and a co-edited book that focuses on homeland impacts of immigrants from different countries and regions of the world.
