The Pardee Graduate Council, the official graduate student organization of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, viewed returns from the 2016 United States Presidential Election along with Pardee School faculty members on November 8, 2016 at 121 Bay State Road.

Around 40 Pardee School graduate students enjoyed pizza and refreshments while watching the election results roll in throughout the evening.

Assistant Professor of International Relations Julie Klinger and Professor of the Practice of International Relations John D. Woodward Jr. joined the graduate students to watch the election results.

The mood among graduate students on Election Night turned from nervous excitement to shock as Donald Trump unexpectedly clinched the presidency of the United States. Students expressed concern over issues from the impact President Elect Trump could have on the economy to his conservative stance on immigration.

The election viewing is the latest event this year in which the Pardee School graduate student community has gathered outside of the academic setting to socialize and build a graduate class identity. MA candidates were welcomed back to campus in the fall with a barbecue, and first-year MA students attended a September retreat aimed at fostering the Pardee School graduate student community.

The Pardee Graduate Council organizes a variety of activities to enrich students’ lives, including dinners with faculty members and social events. Each year during the Spring Semester, the Pardee Graduate Council organizes a graduate student conference, centered around a theme chosen by the students.  The conference draws graduate students from the many colleges and universities throughout the Boston area and beyond.
