Students and faculty from the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University took a spring trip to Washington, D.C. during Spring Break week.

For three days, Pardee school graduate students visited think tanks, non-governmental-organizations, government departments and met with high-level policy makers and practitioners of international affairs. Students also got the opportunity to meet a number of Boston Univeristy and Pardee School alumni working in the Washington DC area. The itinerary included:

  • A visit to the RAND Corporation
  • A tour of the Pentagon, as well as a meeting with Boston University Alumnus Carl Woog (Deputy Assistant for the Secretary of Defense for Communications) and Alumnae Stephanie Dreyer (Director of Social Media for the Secretary of Defense)
  • Meeting with Demien Smith, Chief of Staff to Ambassador Kristie A. Kenny, Counselor of the Department, U.S. Department of State
  • Meetings with staff members for the U. S. Congress and State Department representatives
  • Meetings with executives at the World Bank
  • Networking with BU Alumni in the D. C. area, co-sponsored by BU Washington DC Study Abroad.

This is the inaugural year for the Washington D.C. trip by Pardee School graduate students in what is expected to be an annual trip. The goal of the Spring Break visit to Washington is to enable Pardee School students to get a better sense of career and practice options available to those pursuing high education in global affairs.
