Gallagher in El Comercio: China’s Key Train

Kevin Gallagher, Professor of Global Development Policy at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, said that a train across South America was key for China’s strategy of further economic expansion in the region.

Gallagher’s argument was quoted in a Jan. 19 article in the Spanish-language newspaper El Comercio. The translated title of the article is “Europe Looks to Get on the Transcontinental Train Between Brazil and Peru.”

From the text of the article:

And it’s a key cog in the strategy to expand its diplomatic influence in the region.

“It would be a trophy and a key part of the whole relationship, if it goes well,” said Kevin Gallagher, a professor at Boston University and author of studies on the link China-Latin America.

“The whole project is a great promise, but must be done well or can become a nightmare,” he said in an interview with the BBC last year.
