Susan Eckstein, Professor of International Relations and Sociology at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, said that the normalization of diplomatic relations between the U. S. and Cuba was a welcome change.

Eckstein explained her position to Yawa Degboe, anchor on Arlington Public News, in a segment uploaded on August 3 that further discussed potential impacts of Cuba policy on future government policy.

“I’m delighted. This is a change that is long overdue,” Eckstein said. “The real issue now is whether Congress will vote to end the embargo. Currently, President Obama is not pushing for that, maybe because he believes if he pushes for it Congress will maintain it.”
