Courses at Metropolitan College are taught by full- and part-time faculty. Part-time instructors at Metropolitan College carry the title of Lecturer.
Service Employees International Union, Local 509
Boston University has entered a ratified agreement with the Service Employees International Union, Local 509, effective June 2019, where all part-time faculty members employed by Boston University at Massachusetts campuses to teach at least one credit bearing course (including blended courses) in a degree granting program, and who are compensated on a per course or per hour basis are covered by the contract. Online-Courses are excluded from this collective bargaining unit.
All part-time faculty in the collective bargaining Unit must elect one of 3 choices: a) join the Union; b) become agency fee payers (non-member) or c) make a charitable contribution through a written statement submitted to BU Human Resources (Attn: Labor Relations) that payment of Union dues or an agency fee would have an actual or perceived or potential adverse impact on your professional work or outside employment.

Deadlines for notice of course availability and teaching assignment letters for the 2022-2023 year are as follows:
March 1, 2022 Summer 22 Notice of Available Courses & Inquiry of Availability
April 1, 2022 Summer 22 Course Assignment Letters Sent
May 1, 2022 Fall 22 Notice of Available Courses & Inquiry of Availability
July 1, 2022 Fall 22 Course Assignment Letters Sent
October 1, 2022 Spring 23 Notice of Available Courses & Inquiry of Availability
November 1, 2022 Spring 23 Course Assignment Letters Sent
Notices of available courses may be sent after a deadline if the course has been made newly available due to the previously scheduled instructor backing out of the course after the deadline, at which point the expectation of date for the new course assignment letter will be clearly stated.
