Labor-management harmony is the mission of Labor Relations at Boston University. Labor Relations oversees all aspects of labor-management strategy, collective bargaining, contract interpretation and enforcement, grievances and arbitrations, mediation of disputes, and other labor-related legal matters for both the Charles River Campus and the Medical Campus. The unit also oversees the delivery of labor-management education for University leaders and managers of represented and non-represented faculty and staff, and supports BU Human Resources in its consultative role to academic and business leaders and partners.
Local 2324, United Auto Workers agreement applies to all full-time and regular part-time clerical, technical, and service employees (who work at least 26¼ hours per week and are not covered by other union contracts) employed on the Charles River Campus, but excludes guards, watchmen, supervisors, and professional employees as defined in the National Labor Relations Act; confidential, temporary agency personnel, seasonal, and temporary employees; and student employees.
Local 888, Service Employees International Union agreement applies to all regular full-time, professional, nonsupervisory librarians in the ranks of Librarian I, Librarian II, and Librarian III employed at Mugar Memorial Library and the Libraries of Astronomy, Educational Resources, and Science & Engineering on the Charles River Campus, but excluding guards, watchmen, supervisors, other professional employees as defined by the National Labor Relations Act; confidential employees; all technical and clerical employees as defined by the National Labor Relations Act; and temporary agency personnel, seasonal, and temporary employees.
Service Employees International Union, District 615, 32 BJ agreement applies to service and maintenance employees covered on the Charles River Campus and the Medical Campus, but excludes supervisory employees as defined by the National Labor Relations Act; student employees; employees who work fewer than 16 hours per week or temporary agency personnel and temporary employees who work fewer than 45 days; and all employees assigned directly to academic departments.
Service Employees International Union, Local 509 (Part-Time Faculty) agreement applies to all part-time graduate and undergraduate faculty (adjuncts, part-time lecturers, lecturers, part-time instructors, or instructors) employed by Boston University at its Massachusetts campuses to teach at least one credit bearing course (including hybrid and blended courses) in a degree-granting program, and who are compensated on a per course or per hour basis and all part-time lecturers actively employed by Boston University at its Center for English Language & Orientation Program (CELOP) but excluding all tenured or tenure-track faculty; full-time faculty; visiting or contract faculty; School of Medicine faculty (except Division of Graduate Medical Sciences); School of Dental Medicine faculty; deans, provosts, administrators, program coordinators, program directors, department chairs, graduate assistants, graduate students who teach only courses pursuant to a stipend, athletic coaches and faculty who teach only online, courses at non-Massachusetts campuses, non-degree granting courses (with the exception of part-time lecturers actively employed at CELOP), and/or courses as a teaching supervisor; all other employees employed by the University, including all other part-time employees employed in other programs and areas of instruction at Boston University, and including those who teach a class or course and are separately compensated for such teaching; and managers, confidential employees, guards, and supervisors as defined by the Act.
Boston University Police Patrolmen’s Association (BUPPA) agreement applies to all full-time police officers and civilian dispatchers employed on the Charles River Campus and Medical Campus, but excludes all other employees: service and maintenance employees, clerical and technical employees, professional employees, sergeants, student employees, and all other supervisory personnel as defined by the National Labor Relations Act.
Boston University Security Officers’ Association (BUSOA) agreement applies to all full-time security officers employed by Boston University on its Medical Campus, but excludes all other employees: service and maintenance employees, office clerical employees, professional employees, sergeants, and all other supervisory personnel as defined by the National Labor Relations Act.
