Michael Silverstein is a 2022 Hariri Institute for Computing Graduate Student Fellow and in the fourth year of his PhD program. He is co-advised by Professors Daniel Segrè (Biology, Bioinformatics, and Biomedical Engineering), and Jennifer Bhatnagar (Biology). Silverstein is interested in the role that soil microbial interactions play in regulating climate change. He got his start in studying microbial communities while working at Finch Therapeutics where he helped to design a microbial consortia for the treatment of Ulcerative Colitis using gut microbiome derived strains. Now, he wants to design microbial consortia for improving carbon sequestration in soils.
