Mental and Emotional Health
Student Wellbeing is a campus-wide initiative to support students’ health and wellbeing during their time at BU. We believe that everyone deserves to feel good and that how students feel matters. Our collective goal — as administrators, faculty, and staff — is to inspire our students to feel fulfilled each day, despite the ups and downs of life on campus.
Student Health Services has a team of experts to help guide students towards mental and emotional health and stability. Explore their services on the SHS Behavioral Medicine website. See the programs offered by SHS Mental Health & Wellbeing to help you nurture your mental health and feel and be your best.
Check Student Health Services Behavioral Medicine Groups and Workshops to help you address a variety of mental health related needs. These groups can help you decrease isolation and expand your support network, while gaining effective coping skills.
The Boston University Parent & Family Program helps parents, guardians, family members, and friends to be engaged and well-informed. Additional resources for graduate student parents, include the BU Children’s Center and Family Resources.
Safety on Campus
Boston University Police Department is a professional law enforcement agency providing the Boston University community with a wide variety of public services including: campus safety and patrol services, emergency medical assistance, registration of valuables (including laptops and bikes), lost and found, and any criminal matters on campus.
BU Police Headquarters is located at 32 Harry Agganis Way.
Follow BU Police, @BUPolice, on Twitter for important safety updates.
Sexual Harrasement Policies
Title IX requires universities to respond promptly and effectively to complaints of all kinds of sexual misconduct, including sexual harassment and sexual violence. Universities must take immediate action to eliminate the offending conduct, prevent its recurrence, and address its effects.
BU is committed to promptly investigating the circumstances of a complaint to determine what occurred, ensure complainant safety, and provide remedies. Regardless of whether a complainant files a criminal action, BU will undertake its own investigation of the circumstances of the complaint.

Student Health Services
Student Health Services (SHS) is an integrated health center whose mission is to promote wellness, preserve health, and enable academic achievement for the students of Boston University.
You may use Student Health Services if you are a full-time BU student, regardless of your insurance choice (this excludes on-line students) OR any student with the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). All students, regardless of status or insurance, are eligible for assistance with community referrals.
SHIP is Boston University’s health insurance plan for students. It is offered through Aetna, a large national health insurer. SHIP may be the best—and most affordable—option for covering your healthcare outside of Student Health Services (SHS).
Health and wellbeing are the foundation of student success at BU and beyond. Student Health Services is committed to compassionate care to support your growth and lifelong wellbeing. The First-Year Students Guide provides information about SHS departments, services, and programs, important information and health requirements for first-year students and resources to support your wellbeing.
