Inside the Academics at CFA
The College of Fine Arts provides multiple layers of support for students throughout their undergraduate program for guidance, mentoring and support. CFA students are assigned professional Academic Advisors, have full access to Faculty Mentors, and receive additional support from a college-wide Student Services team.
Students pursue interests by taking courses across BU’s 10 undergraduate schools and colleges as they fulfill their general education requirements. Students can select from a wide range of courses that carry Hub units, both in and outside of their major.
This 2-credit course is the perfect start to your experience at CFA. Through collaborative projects, visiting artists and inspiring conversations, the course is an experiential and comprehensive introduction to the full scope of artistic endeavors housed within the College of Fine Arts.
CFA has a number of minors available including Arts Leadership, Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts. Additionally, students often pursue Minors from disciplines across the University.
Students can earn two bachelor’s degrees from two undergraduate schools or colleges simultaneously through the BU Dual Degree program. Many CFA students pursue the Dual Degree Program, with second majors ranging from Biology to English, from Computer Science to Political Science. The work can be challenging, but in most cases, our advisors can work with you so you can complete both degrees in four years.
CFA Students & Dual Degrees
Check out these videos highlighting a few of our current students who are pursuing dual degrees. They provide a sample of the many combinations that are available to CFA students.

Ken Rudolph (CFA’22, Questrom’22) explains the benefits of studying at a small college within a large university, “I can do so many different things with graphic design, there are so many fields you can go into. And just being able to combine and have that business knowledge in addition to my graphic design work is really great.”
Graphic Design/Computer Science
Dual-degree student Chinwe Oparaji (CFA’21, CAS’21) talks about merging her two loves—graphic design and computer science—into one perfect internship.
Dual-degree student Stella Faux (CFA’22) talks about combining her two loves of violin performance and psychology at Boston University.
