BU announces the biggest gift in its history: Rajen Kilachand (Questrom’74, Hon.’14), a Dubai-based global entrepreneur, pledges $25 million for BU’s new Honors College, the Arvind & Chandan Nandlal Kilachand Honors College, named in honor of his parents.

The School of Medicine opens a nine-story student residence, with 104 two-bedroom apartments, at 815 Albany St.
BU formally launches the Campaign for Boston University, with a goal of raising $1 billion.
BU trustee Rajen Kilachand (Questrom’74, Hon.’14) boosts his giving by $10 million, which is used to renovate the Shelton Hall student residence. Renamed Kilachand Hall, the building houses Kilachand Honors College students.
Sumner M. Redstone (Hon.’94), a media giant and former School of Law faculty member, gives $18 million to kick-start the construction of an addition at the base of the LAW tower.
BU is invited to join the Association of American Universities, an elite organization of 61 other leading research universities in the United States and Canada. Locally, only Harvard, MIT, and Brandeis are also members.

New Balance Field, a 110,000-square-foot athletic field in West Campus, opens, doubling BU’s playable green space. The field and underground parking facility are made possible by a $3 million donation from the Brighton-based shoe manufacturer.

The College of Engineering opens the Engineering Product Innovation Center (EPIC), a student makerspace with a 3-D printer, a full machine shop, an automated robotic manufacturing line, and other state-of-the-art tools.
The Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies opens. The school is founded with a $25 million donation from Frederick S. Pardee (Questrom’54,’54, Hon.’06), a former economist who runs a real estate management firm in Los Angeles.
The Center for Student Services, which opened in 2012 at 100 Bay State Road, is renamed the Yawkey Center for Student Services for the former Red Sox owners and Boston philanthropists Tom and Jean Yawkey, whose foundation gave BU $10 million to launch a nonprofit internship program.
The Sumner M. Redstone Building—the School of Law’s new addition—opens.
The Alan and Sherry Leventhal Center, BU’s admissions reception and visitor center, opens on Bay State Road, recognizing the philanthropic and volunteer leadership of trustee emeritus Alan Leventhal (Hon.’09) and Sherry Leventhal.

BU’s School of Management is renamed the Questrom School of Business with a $50 million gift from BU trustee Allen Questrom (Questrom’64, Hon.’15) and his wife, Kelli Questrom (Hon.’15).

Richard Shipley (Questrom’68,’72), a BU trustee, technology investor, and former CEO, gives the School of Medicine $10.5 million to create the Shipley Prostate Cancer Research Center, along with a website devoted to treatment options.

After a $115 million gift from trustee Rajen Kilachand (Questrom’74, Hon.’14)—now the largest gift in BU’s history—the University opens the Rajen Kilachand Center for Integrated Life Sciences & Engineering, a state-of-the-art research facility on Comm Ave.
President Robert A. Brown launches Innovate@BU, a University-wide initiative that gives all students opportunities to engage in creative problem-solving and hands-on innovation. It is housed at the BUild Lab IDG Capital Student Innovation Center, named in recognition of the lead support from IDG Capital and its CEO, BU trustee Hugo Shong (COM’87, GRS’90).
The 250-seat glass-front Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre and the CFA Production Center open on Comm Ave. The facility is made possible with a $10 million gift from University trustee Steve Zide (LAW’86) and his wife, Janet Zide.

With support from the University and alumni, the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine breaks ground on a $112 million addition and renovation project.
BU’s School of Education and Wheelock College merge to become the BU Wheelock College of Education & Human Development.
The $133 million renovation of Myles Standish Hall, BU’s oldest dorm, is complete.
Frederick S. Pardee (Questrom’54,’54, Hon.’06) pledges another $25 million for global studies.
Preconstruction begins for the relocation of the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground from the George Sherman Union basement level to 808 Comm Ave.
The Dahod Family Alumni Center opens in the restored BU Castle on Bay State Road.
BU announces plans to build the dramatic, 19-story Center for Computing & Data Sciences on Comm Ave, bringing the math and statistics and the computer science departments and the multidisciplinary Rafik B. Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science & Engineering under one roof. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2020.
