Scholarships & Financial Aid

How Can You Apply?

To receive need-based financial aid from BU, you must submit both the CSS Profile™ and FAFSA, which are used to determine your “expected family contribution.” Be sure to check out our tips for completing the Profile or FAFSA.

Application Steps:

  1. Note all applicable deadlines.
  2. Submit the FAFSA.
  3. Submit the CSS Profile.
  4. Upload a CSS Profile Waiver Request for the Noncustodial Parent to the MyBU Applicant Portal if getting a Profile from your other (noncustodial) parent will be impossible.
  5. Regularly check your MyBU Applicant Portal “Application Status” page and email account for requests for additional information.

What a Financial Aid Package Might Look Like

To help you understand how aid is broken down and awarded at BU, we’ve supplied four examples of what a financial aid package might look like.

MyinTuition: Quick College Cost Estimator

This online tool will help you anticipate your college costs and estimate your eligibility for need-based scholarships through six basic financial questions. You will receive an early estimate of the amount your family will need to contribute for one year at Boston University.

Net Price Calculator

This online tool will help you and your family estimate the amount of financial aid you could be offered and the net amount you may be expected to pay toward the cost of attending BU.

Need-Based Scholarships

BU’s need-based scholarships are awarded based on a combination of demonstrated financial need and academic merit. To apply, you must complete the two financial aid forms listed above to determine your financial aid need for need-based grants and scholarships. We strongly encourage students and families to consider applying, even if you don’t think you may be eligible.
