CSS Profile and FAFSA Applications
It is important that information on the PROFILE and FAFSA be consistent. If at all possible, they should be completed at the same time.
File your PROFILE and FAFSA using your full legal name; do not use a nickname, or any name other than your full legal name.
Filing Tips for the PROFILE and FAFSA offers further helpful pointers for filling out these two forms.
The CSS PROFILE (College Scholarship Service Financial Aid PROFILE Application) provides financial and other family information necessary to determine your eligibility for Boston University financial aid.
File the PROFILE online through the College Board. Boston University’s College Scholarship Service (CSS) code number is 3087. The College Board charges $25 for the first college and $16 for each additional college. First-time applicants from families with low income and limited assets may be eligible for an automatic College Board fee waiver. If you’re concerned about paying the fee we encourage you to complete the PROFILE application and see if you qualify for an automatic College Board fee waiver.
Boston University requires that the student’s Social Security number be reported on the PROFILE.
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is used to determine your eligibility for federal and state financial aid.
We strongly recommend that you complete your FAFSA online. List “Boston University” and our federal code number, 002130, in the College Release Section.
