Orientation manages the registration, scheduling, and reporting of Orientation related activities. Orientation is used by matriculated applicants of undergraduate admissions at Boston University. After admittance and paying the deposit, an applicant becomes matriculated and will gain access to Student Portal. The Student Portal then orients them by providing information of what next steps a Boston University student needs to take and facilitates the orientation events registration. The service is implemented on Student Portal which is built on Salesforce CRM platform with Experience Cloud, Service Cloud and Blackthorn for Events management.

Orientation provides administrative tools for setting up and managing the events (both virtual and in-person) for the business office while providing self-service for newly admitted incoming students. The staff and students access is facilitated through the student portal serves as an information portal for services spanning registration, payment, housing reservations and management tool and lists for the Orientation leaders.

What to Expect
This service normally will be available 24 by 7 except for Salesforce preferred maintenance windows. Any changes to access to this service will follow standard change windows, as described in IS&T’s standard policies, procedures, and schedules for making changes.
Requirements
- BU login with appropriate access to functionality on Faculty/Staff Link (departments and staff). Staff members require a Salesforce account to access event management functionality as well as generating/viewing reports for Orientation attendance.
Getting Started
- Entering students: Start at the Orientation website
- Certain distributed administrative functions may require additional training from ENSA, IS&T or the department. Individuals should check with their unit’s Data Security Administrator (DSA) for training availability.
- Staff requiring access to the Orientation service components, as well as functionality on Faculty/Staff Link should contact their unit’s Data Security Administrator (DSA) to request correct permissions for access to functions and data.
