BU Meetup Returns for AY 2023/2024

Calling all graduate students! Are you looking to meet people from different departments and grow your BU network? Student Wellbeing's "BU Meetup" project invites you to do just that - enjoy more casual interactions across academic units.

Back for a second year and expanded to include students on all campuses, this program will match students from different departments into small groups to meet for a walk, coffee, or outing of their choice to foster new connections. Students can opt-in to be included in rounds of matches through the form linked below.

Sign-up here!

Here’s how it works. Once you sign up for the program, you will receive an invitation to participate in each round of meetups. If you opt into a round, you will be randomly matched with three other BU students from outside your department and given a two week window to meet. Groups will be paired by email, and all you need to do is find a time that works! BU Meetup is meant to be whatever you make of it, so make friends, build connections, or just share grad school experiences!

About the founders: Eric Wellers (LAW '24) and Will Saunders (GRS '24) joined forces with a great idea: to connect graduate students that are interested in meeting peers from other programs on campus. Originally piloted by Eric at LAW, Will brought his tech expertise to the table by creating an application to match graduate students into trios as an opportunity to socialize and foster community. With lots of work and determination, BUMeetUp launched in Fall 2022.

New HUB CC offered for Fall ’23!

Student Wellbeing is delighted to be partnering with Undergraduate Affairs and the BU Hub to bring a new cocurricular course to life.  This Hub cocurricular (HUB CC 127) is designed especially for first-year students. Focusing on the mindsets and skills that foster success in college, it introduces students to educational opportunities that can enrich their time at BU, all while promoting holistic wellbeing! Students will have the opportunity to reflect on and talk about their experiences at BU in real-time with their peers, specifically how they're finding their way in the classrooms, residence halls, dining halls, labs, social spaces and more! Effective Fall 2023, this Hub cocurricular fulfills a single unit in the following BU Hub area: The Individual in Community. To register for a Hub cocurricular, please visit MyBU Student Portal.

Keep an eye out for another cocurricular during spring registration, when Student Wellbeing will be offering a new cocurricular, Wellbeing for Student Leaders.

Mindfulness and Stress Management

We're in the home stretch of the semester! Preparing for finals and transitioning to what comes after spring semester can be stressful, but we' here to help.

In a recent workshop presented by Student Wellbeing and Headspace, BU students told us they would love to hear more about mindfulness and its connection to managing stress. As a BU student, you have free access to Headspace, a mindfulness and meditation app.

Here are some of Headspace's resources to help support all dimensions of your wellbeing throughout the end of the semester.

Orientation 2023 to Feature Student Wellbeing Pop-Ups

Student Wellbeing is delighted to partner with Orientation this summer to provide our incoming Terriers a glimpse into what wellbeing means at Boston University. As part of orientation, we will be hosting two pop-up experiences - The Zen Zone and the Play Station - along with other great programming!

Students looking to catch a quiet moment away from the hustle and bustle of Orientation can visit the Zen Zone in the GSU. This pop-up experience invites students to relax their mind, take a deep breath, and gather their thoughts before getting back to learning about BU. They'll get to “put their feet up” and enjoy a moment in our colorful and ultra-comfortable inflatable hammocks. Also, they'll have opportunities to center themselves and live in the present moment through content provided by Headspace and a touch of aromatherapy.

The Play Station, located in West Campus's Rich Hall, invites students to enjoy a friendly game of Connect Four, Jenga, Bananagrams, or Checkers to forge new connections or simply have a laugh!  This station will be available during Terrier's Night Out, along with many other great event sponsored by partners across campus. What better way to break the ice and promote social wellbeing than through play and friendly competition?

These pop-up stations, and more, are part of Student Wellbeing's signature event, The Wellbeing Experience. Be sure to follow us on Instagram (@bu_wellbeing) to find out when and where The Wellbeing Experience will take place on campus this fall!
