Online Resources.
There are many career-related resources and tools available to help improve your job and practicum search. Here are a few that BUSPH students and alumni have found useful in the past.
VMock: Resume, Cover Letter, Interview Prep, & LinkedIn Optimizer
Vmock’s SMART Resume Editor & Optimizer will benchmark your resume against other Boston University students and evaluate it with smart data analytics. It will also provide feedback on ATS keywords, formatting, and skills.
- The algorithms are benchmarked for primarily undergraduate students and the tried and true School of Public Health recommendations are not always what VMock benchmarks against.
- In using VMock, focus on the practical feedback and less on the score. VMock’s standards are high and strict, so don’t worry about scoring 100.
- VMock is not meant to replace real-person feedback— still have your resume reviewed by the BUSPH CPO after using VMock and making changes based on its feedback. That way your in-person review can focus more on substance and nuance.
- VMock gives you feedback specific to your resume in both System Feedback and Bullet-Level Feedback. For maximum benefit, check out VMock’s in-app guides — simply click the “see guidance” button wherever it appears.
- System Feedback evaluates all aspects of your resume.
- Within System Feedback, guides are provided for all elements of the Impact and Competencies modules.
- Bullet-Level Feedback shows how select criteria—those relevant to the way you describe your experience—apply to each bullet point, one by one.>
- Use the guide within Bullet-Level Feedback for additional help on writing great bullet points.
You get 10 uploads per year, so make as many changes as you can at one time before uploading it again.
Cover Letter Enhancer helps you craft impactful cover letters with targeted suggestions and give you keyword and formatting tips.
Interview Suite provides valuable feedback on your body language, content, and diction.
LinkedIn Optimizer (Aspire) helps you build a standout LinkedIn profile with personalized recommendations, optimize your profile for recruiter searches and improve visibility. It also will help ensure a cohesive story between your resume and LinkedIn profile.
