Learn more about the commuter benefits offered to our faculty and staff below. Commuter options are also enhanced through our partnership with the Allston Brighton Transportation Management Association.

As BU continues to invest in expanding academic and research facilities on the Charles River Campus, parking capacity will continue to decrease. Reducing drive-alone vehicle demand is an essential component of the University’s Transportation Demand Management (TDM) plan and faculty and staff are encouraged to try alternatives to driving alone.

Parking & Transportation Services is here to assist with your commuting choices. Call (617) 353-2160, visit us weekdays between 9 A.M. and 5 P.M., or email us.

All regular faculty and staff who order a monthly MBTA pass through Boston University  now have access to the following subsidized rates:

  • 35% for Local Bus, Inner Express, Outer Express, Subway (LinkPass) and Commuter Rail Zone 1A
  • 50% for Boat and Commuter Rail Zones 1-10 (excluding 1A).

Please visit our Employee MBTA Pass Page for full program details. Eligible employees may apply for their MBTA passes online using BUworks.

Parking & Transportation Services oversees the Bike Safety programs and enforces cycling rules and regulations on campus. If you bike to campus, we recommend that you register your bicycle. This allows us to inform you of projects and activities that may significantly affect bike commutes as well as provide access to restricted on-campus bicycle parking locations.  Registering your bicycle also allows the Boston University Police Department to contact owners of recovered lost or stolen bicycles.

Looking for a bike rack near your office or classroom? Use BU Maps to find any bike rack located on campus.

Need a bike for quick trips? Try Hubway – there are several stations conveniently located on and near the BU campus, and many more throughout and beyond Boston. This is a great way to get to other parts of campus quickly, connect to your transit commute, or (depending on where you live), bike the whole way.

What about showers? Want to bike, walk or run to BU but worried about getting sweaty on the way? No problem! BU employees have access to free showers at several locations on campus:

  • Track and Tennis Center, 100 Ashford Street – locker rooms are to the left when you enter – show your BU ID and let the attendant know you are a bike/walk/run commuter
  • 25 Buick Street – first floor near Accounts Payable department
  • Yawkey Student Center, 100 Bay State Road – basement level near Facilities

Don’t forget, you can also use the showers at FitRec with your membership!
