Heine Interviewed on U.S. Diplomatic Standing with Latin America

Professor Jorge Heine interviewed on TRT World's "Inside America" on June 16, 2022

In an interview on TRT World‘s “Inside America,” Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, discusses the Summit of the Americas as well as the Biden administration’s policy towards Latin America.

As Heine has discussed extensively, the exclusion of certain Latin American countries from the Summit was a major diplomatic misstep and a showcase of President Joe Biden’s “Trump-lite” approach to the region. In discussing the United States’ current standing in Latin America, Heine argues that there have been a number of U.S. failures that have created pushback from countries in the region. As a result, Latin America is engaging more economically and diplomatically with China, a trend Heine is not surprised by at all.
