Friends of IIASA (FoI), which helped create this new Visiting Fellowship announced that Dr. Adil Najam will be the first holder of the Peter De Jánosi Fellowship, which aims to encourage greater links between leading U.S. based scholars, to advance more American participation in IIASA’s global research programs, and to support extended research visits by De Jánosi Visiting Fellows to IIASA for exchanges with IIASA-based researchers.
Najam, who had first interacted with IIASA in 1994 as a participant in its Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) whilst a graduate student at MIT, said that he was honored and delighted to be named the first De Jánosi Visiting Fellow because, “it allows me to continue a long and enduring relationship with IIASA which has not only included research interactions over nearly 30 years, spending a summer as a YSSP doctoral student, but also serving on its Council.” Earlier, Najam as already awarded the status of ‘Honorary Scholar’ at IIASA for “exemplary dedication to the Institute’s ideals and distinguished scholarly achievement.”

During his current stay at the Institute, Najam is being hosted by the office of the IIASA Director General Albert van Jaarsveld and has been meeting with IIASA researchers and scholars, including visiting summer scholars to advance common research interests. He will be conducting a special workshop on “The Art of Negotiating Science Policy” for current YSSP doctoral scholars at IIASA on Monday, June 26, 2023.
