Heine Quoted on Degrees of Global Response to Ukraine Crisis

Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was interviewed for a France24 article on Russia’s global isolation following its invasion of Ukraine.

The article, titled “Is Russia as isolated as Ukraine’s allies hope?,” explores the extent to which international admonishment of Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine has led to its isolation from global markets and cooperation. While western countries have largely rallied around economic sanctions and measures to halt Vladimir Putin’s war machine, other countries have not been as aggressive in their response. Heine argues that “it’s one thing to condemn the invasion of Ukraine -– it’s another to launch an economic war against Russia, and many countries in South America, Africa, and Asia are not ready to cross the line.”
