Weinstein Comments on White Nationalism in U.S. Military
On Monday, January 18, 2021, Lt Gen Jack Weinstein, USAF (Ret), Professor of the Practice of International Security at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, appeared on CNN to discuss the presence of white nationalism in the United States military.
During his appearance, Weinstein said that there are pockets of white nationalists throughout the different branches of the military and that it is a “cancer” that must be removed – a point he made to Congress over the summer of 2020. He discussed how simply being a member of an extremist or white nationalist groups – not “active” as he put it – was not something that would remove a person from military service. This was a point raised to Weinstein by one of his students in her research, and he went on to say that membership in extremists groups should be grounds to have people removed as it is a violation of their oath of office.
