Shifrinson Talks to Weekendavisen on US, China and COVID-19
Joshua Shifrinson, Assistant Professor of International Relations at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was interviewed for an article published in Weekendavisen by Peter Harmsen on COVID-19’s impact on US-Chinese relations. Weekendavisen is Europe’s oldest newspaper still in print. The article was published on Friday, April 3, 2020. The article is entitled, “Failure of one, the other’s defeat,” focuses on when the world’s two strongest powers cannot even agree to fight the corona threat together, it is a sign of how toxic their relationship has become.

“Global health is one of the areas where it is usually easy for people to collaborate. Everyone benefits if people are healthy, ”says Joshua Shifrinson, an American foreign policy expert at Boston University. “If the US and China can’t even figure out a consensus on health issues, it’s a sign of how explosive and problematic the US-Chinese relationship has become and how much worse it could be in the future.”
Joshua R. Itzkowitz Shifrinson is an Assistant Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, where his teaching and research interests focus on the intersection of international security and diplomatic history, particularly the rise and fall of great powers and the origins of grand strategy.
