Student Spotlight: Pardee School Student Speaks at BU Matriculation

Hafzat Akanni (Pardee/CAS ’20) delivered welcome remarks at the 2019 Boston University Matriculation ceremony, where first-year students are officially welcomed into the Boston University community.

Akanni is a senior majoring in International Relations and African American Studies. During her time at Boston University, Akanni has been heavily involved in student activities and extracurriculars including the Student Activities Office, the African Studies Center, the International Affairs Association, the Residence Hall Council, the Minority Connection Initiative, and the Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

In addition to Akanni, students heard from Boston University President Robert Brown as well as faculty and student speakers at Matriculation — the only time the entire class of new students will be in the same place at the same time until their Commencement.

The Matriculation ceremony was preceded by the Matriculation Walk, in which students sport BU colors and gear as they celebrate entering the Boston University community.
