Pardee Students Hold Interactive Session With EDA Students

Students at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University participated in an April 16, 2019 dialogue and exchange of ideas with students at the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA) in Abu Dhabi.

The video conference, which was organized by Pardee School Senior Lecturer Amb. Paul Webster Hare, featured an interactive session on the reform of diplomacy – including how diplomacy needed to pay more attention to understanding religious issues, approaches to health, and how to harness expertise in science and technology. There were several exchanges on  how diplomats needed to use social media and public diplomacy better to promote the peaceful resolution of problems which are at the core of the activity of diplomacy.

Students representing the Pardee School included Laura AlBast, Abaas Chaudhry, Temur Hannan, Joseph Stuckey, Laura Wiggins and Andrey Grashkin.

To support the mission of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA) was launched in 2014 and has become the driving force in the ministry’s efforts to educate, inform and qualify the UAE’s current and future diplomats and government leaders to represent the country on the global stage.

Amb. Paul Hare teaches classes at Boston University on Diplomatic Practice, Arms Control, Intercultural Communication and on Cuba in Transition. In Spring 2016 he will offer a new class on Public Diplomacy. His novel, “Moncada – A Cuban Story”, set in modern Cuba, was published in May 2010.
