Gallagher Speaks on CDP Panel on Multilateralism

Kevin Gallagher, Director of the Global Development Policy (GDP) Center and Professor of Global Development Policy at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, spoke as part of a March 12, 2019 panel organized by the Committee for Development Policy (CDP), a subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations. 

Gallagher was joined on the panel, entitled “Can Multilateralism Survive? The Future of Development Policy in a Changing Multilateral Context,” by fellow CDP members Winnie Byanyima, Ha-Joon Chang, and Mariana Mazzucato. The panelists presented their thoughts on the future of development policy in a changing multilateral context. The discussion was part of the 21st Plenary Session of the CDP held from March 11-15, 2019.

Gallagher serves as the North American representative from 2019-2022. Since the CDP’s inception in 1965, there have been only 11 representatives from North America. The CDP is a subsidiary body of ECOSOC providing independent expert advice on a wide range of issues related to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Gallagher serves on the United Nations’ Committee for Development Policy and co-chairs the T-20 Task Force on International Financial Architecture at the G-20. He previously served on the investment sub-committee of the Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy at the US Department of State and on the National Advisory Committee at the Environmental Protection Agency.   Gallagher has been a visiting or adjunct professor at the Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University; El Colegio de Mexico in Mexico; Tsinghua University in China, and the Center for State and Society in Argentina. @KevinPGallagher
