Lt. Gen. Jack Weinstein of the United States Air Force visited Boston University on April 11, 2018 for two joint events hosted by the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies and BU Political Science. Lt. Gen. Weinstein provides direction, guidance, integration and advocacy regarding the nuclear deterrence mission of the United States Air Force.

The first of these two events was a roundtable discussion on U.S. nuclear strategy and deterrence. This roundtable was chaired by Ambassador Robert Loftis of the Pardee School. The discussion was attended by several Pardee School and BU Political Science faculty and students, and was conducted under the Chatham House Rule.

Following the roundtable, Lt. Gen. Weinstein visited an undergraduate class, “Nuclear Governance,” taught by Profs. Jayita Sarkar (Pardee) and Rosella Cappella Zielinski (Political Science). The students participated in a frank discussion about U.S. nuclear policy, and learned about the various governance structures that concern the management of U.S. nuclear weapons, delivery vehicles, doctrines and policies. Profs. Sarkar and Cappella Zielinski co-organized both the roundtable and the class visit.
