Gallagher in CNN Español: China’s Challenges in Latin America

Kevin Gallagher, Professor of Global Development Policy at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, said while China underestimated the challenges it would face in investing in Latin American economies, the country continues to commit to the region.

Gallagher was quoted in a February 18, 2016 article on CNN Español entitled “China Against the United States: The Fight For Investing in Latin America.”

“China underestimated the challenges we face in the region,” said Kevin Gallagher, a professor at Boston University and an expert on China and Latin America. However, “while the rest of the investment community has cooled in Latin America, China is stepping up its commitment.”

Kevin Gallagher is the co-chair of the Task Force on Regulating Capital Flows and has served as an advisor to the Department of State and the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States, as well as to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. Gallagher has been a visiting or adjunct professor at the School for Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy; El Colegio de Mexico in Mexico; Tsinghua University in China, and the Center for State and Society in Argentina.
