What motivated you to earn your master’s degree at this point? Why did you choose to fulfill your goal at Metropolitan College?
After finishing my bachelor’s degree, it was clear to me that I wanted to further develop my skills through a master’s degree. While searching for applicable schools for my degree, I came across the German International School of Management (ISM) in Munich. Their dual degree program, which allows me to pursue a master’s at ISM and a master’s at BU with Metropolitan College, piqued my interest. The opportunity to get two master’s degrees at a high-ranking university motivated me to ultimately choose these two schools.

What do you find most fascinating about the discipline of “innovation & technology?” Do you have a particular focus within the broader field?
The field of innovation and technology is heavily centered around the concept of entrepreneurship. This field was always of great interest to me, coming from a family of entrepreneurs.

During my studies, I was able to establish two focus points in this field.

First, I am particularly interested in the organizational approach of each project. Diving into the details and establishing a plan and strategy for a project is something I find very intriguing.

Another part I really learned to enjoy is the focus on innovation. It’s a lot of fun to challenge everything and think creatively to establish new and innovative ideas. By learning the frameworks provided by BU’s innovation courses, I was further able to develop my skills within this field.

Congratulations on your high achievement in the Administrative Studies, Innovation & Technology program and your Award for Excellence in your studies! Looking back, what do you consider to be the main ingredients of your success?
Take every opportunity you get and make the most of it.

It was a big opportunity to get accepted by a school like Boston University’s Metropolitan College, which thereby motivated me to try even harder to get the most out of the program. This hard work opened up the door for me to work as a teaching assistant for two of my professors. Here again, I was very grateful for this chance and tried my best to make the most of this experience. I believe taking my chances and giving 110 percent of my energy to them led to more opportunities, ultimately leading to me earning this award.

How were you able to successfully balance your studies with your commitments outside the classroom?
I tried to organize myself as well as possible. To achieve this, I prioritized my goals and worked according to this ranking. My main goal was to get the best grades possible for my degree. As a result, I always put my academic work first. Knowing that there is always more to do, I tried to finish my tasks as soon as possible, often weeks before due dates, in order to open up more time for other duties, like my job as a teaching assistant. In more stressful times, communication was the key to success. I often told my professors when to expect the work to be done. By communicating realistic deadlines and gaining the opportunity to organize the work primarily on my own, I successfully achieved good grades while delivering high-quality work for my professors.

Was your success in the program driven by a particular outcome—such as professional advancement, educational achievement, personal satisfaction, or something else?
I think the successful outcome was driven by getting the opportunity to study at Boston University and constantly pushing myself to make the most of the time here.

Is there a particular course or project that enhanced your experience in the Administrative Studies, Innovation & Technology program? Please explain.
I would say that every course provided me with added value and enhanced my abilities in administrative studies. I would still like to highlight three courses. Like I mentioned above, I am very focused on planning and following through on projects, as well as trying to think of innovations and create new things. As of this, Project Management (MET AD 642) was of great value. I was able to learn how to best organize a project. Through The Innovation Process (MET MG 541), and Planning and Operating New Ventures (MET AD 740), I was able to deepen my knowledge on how to come up with and organize my entrepreneurial projects.

The hands-on nature of the materials was a significant benefit for all three courses. It was more than just reading and theoretical learning; we also had to apply our newly acquired knowledge immediately to imaginary startups created in the course. As a result, we were able to get feedback on our work almost immediately, providing a real benefit for the real world outside of the usually theoretical academic bubble.

Can you share any examples of skills, principles, or practices learned in the program that you were concurrently able to apply to your job?
I am currently working in consulting, with a big focus on market research. At Boston University, I gained the ability to think creatively and explore diverse perspectives, all while maintaining a structured and organized approach to my work. I think this is the biggest benefit I was able to take into my work life.

What’s next for you? Would you say that your program helped prepare you for the next phase of your life/career/education?
I mentioned above that I am pursuing two master’s degrees. Currently, I am in the process of writing my thesis for my Master of Science in Finance. While doing this, I got the great opportunity to follow my entrepreneurial endeavors by working for IEC Partners, where I am taking on projects for all different kinds of companies, helping them stay innovative.

This wouldn’t have been possible without my time at BU, as I got to meet this company as part of my internship here in Boston. Having been able to apply the concepts learned at BU to their projects, I was able to partner up with them and continue to work on more projects together with them.

You were recognized by faculty and peers for your hard work and dedication to the Administrative Studies, Innovation & Technology program. What “words of advice” or encouragement have served as a guiding principle, or simply inspiration, for you? Any words of wisdom you would like to pass along to students starting in the program?
Take every chance you get and make the most of it! Boston University’s Metropolitan College offers a great variety of courses and host many great minds. Make the most of your time here, and try to make as many connections as possible. There are many great minds at this school, and they can be valuable lifelong!
