What struck Certificate in the Culinary Arts Lead Instructor Chris Douglass as the show’s most accurate detail was the depiction of an accomplished chef, upon reaching home following an arduous shift, eating pedestrian fare like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
For Megan Elias, director of the Gastronomy Program, the show captures the cult-like status of famed celebrity chefs. As she told BU Today, that degree of fame wasn’t always attainable for preparers of food, but in the 1970s that began to change. “Before [then], it was really considered a craft, not an art.”
