Gastronomy, and a sense of the exceptional, must run in the Long family blood.

Madeline Long (MET’18), an alum of what is now BU MET’s MA in Gastronomy program, is putting her degree to good use. She owns two cafés in the lakes region of New Hampshire, and one of them, her business Cup & Crumb, recently won the silver prize as Best Bakery in the Best of the Lakes Region annual competition, sponsored by the Laconia Daily Sun. This honor comes after Cup & Crumb was awarded silver once previously, in 2021, and took home the gold in 2020.

It’s little wonder Madeline is so accomplished in the field, as her father, Perrin H. Long III (MET’11), also of the Gastronomy program, has similarly been feted. A chef, Long III was honored last year when he was inducted into the Honorable Order of the Golden Toque—an exclusive society of chefs which is limited to 100 lifetime members. According to the Order, it’s the highest recognition a chef can receive in America.

All of the BU Metropolitan College community salutes the Long family for their standout contributions to collective accomplishment of the Gastronomy & Food Studies programs.
