Special Arts Administration Lecture Puts Spotlight on Balance Between Academics and Artistry
The founder of the BU MET Arts Administration program is returning to MET to lead the first in what will be an annual series of lectures concerning careers in the arts. On Friday, April 29, 2022, at 6 pm, Daniel Ranalli, who established MET’s graduate program in arts administration in 1992, will deliver Balancing the Work of the Academic and the Artist. The event will be held at Room B-18 of the College of Arts & Sciences, at 725 Commonwealth Avenue, with a reception following at the BU Castle.
An arts administrator, curator, art critic, and gallery director, Ranalli served as the director of arts administration until 2014, and remains an associate professor emeritus at BU MET. The Annual Daniel Ranalli Lecture series is named to honor his essential contributions to the program and the BU community, and in future years will feature other prominent US arts leaders reflecting upon their careers. Ranalli has worked as a consultant to the National Endowment for the Arts and numerous state arts councils developing programs for artist support. His own work as an artist is in the permanent collections of more than twenty-five museums in the US and abroad including the Museum of Modern Art (NY); Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the Smithsonian National Gallery of American Art. Ranalli has participated in over one hundred and thirty solo and group shows throughout the US and abroad. For a dozen years he wrote on arts issues for several regional and national publications. Ranalli has also served on the board of trustees and on the education and collections committees of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. Ranalli’s latest body of work, Lightlines, is currently on exhibit at the LaMontagne Gallery in Boston through May 7, 2022.
