Research Assistant Professor
Dr. Indrajit Kalita joined the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Boston University as a Research Assistant Professor on August 1, 2026, where he’s part of the FORMES research group led by Prof. Yves Atchadé.
Before this, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Boston University’s Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences (CDS), working on weather forecasting using deep learning and Bayesian machine learning. He also works on Explainable AI (XAI) and Uncertainty Quantification (UQ), which are about making machine learning models easier to understand and trust.
Earlier, he was a Research Associate at the CYENS Centre of Excellence in Cyprus, where he studied Earth system dynamics and climate change using remote sensing and deep learning. He did his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIIT Guwahati), focusing on spatiotemporal analysis of environmental change using satellite data.
Outside of work, Indrajit enjoys playing cricket and pickleball and cooking up new dishes.
