Openings for Post-baccalaureate Academic Fellowships

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at Boston University invites applications for a full-time Post-baccalaureate Academic Fellow (PAF) for the 2026-2027 academic year. This innovative program is designed for recent recipients of bachelor’s degrees (B.A. or B.S.) and offers the opportunity to gain teaching and other experience that may be valuable to individuals contemplating academic careers or professional careers requiring advanced academic training.

PAFs will provide teaching support for faculty Instructor of Record (IOR) as a teaching assistant. Each PAF is assigned 2 courses in the Fall semester and 2 courses in the Spring semester. While the specific duties of a PAF may vary depending on the nature and scope of the assignment, core responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the Instructor of Record in evaluating student work and maintaining grade records
  • Maintaining course management systems across course sections (e.g. Blackboard)
  • Responding to student inquiries and providing student support

In addition, PAFs will have the following other opportunities and responsibilities: PAFs may also have the opportunity to conduct supervised research with department faculty in their area of interest based on availability.

Appointments are full-time (40 hrs/week) for 9 months (8/16 -5/15 or 9/1-5/31). PAF compensation for the 2026-2027 academic year is $45,000 paid over nine months and benefits as described here: https://www.bu.edu/hr/employee-resources/benefits/

Applicants who meet the minimum requirements of a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, engineering, or data sciences should submit application packets by email to the Department Director of Operations, Abby Lutton, at alutton@bu.edu.
