The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a number of programs for graduate-level training in mathematics, statistics, and statistical practice.
We offer a strong research environment with groups in applied mathematics; dynamical systems; geometry and physics; number theory; and probability and statistics. These groups include experts in additional topics such as mathematical neuroscience, mathematical biology, and partial differential equations. We also offer unique interdisciplinary opportunities in biomedical engineering, experimental and computational neuroscience, mechanical engineering, and physics. Our program prepares students for research careers in either academia or industry. Students have the opportunity for rigorous classroom training and to work with faculty on advanced research topics over a wide range of theory and application areas. More information about our PhD programs can be found here:PhD in Mathematics and in Statistics
The Master of Arts degree program provides advanced training in theory with applications to a broad range of disciplines. This program prepares students for positions in education, government agencies, industry, or nonprofit institutions, or for further graduate study leading to a PhD degree. More information about our MA programs can be found here:MA in Mathematics and in Statistics
The Master of Science in Statistical Practice (MSSP) is designed for individuals looking to acquire fundamental training in statistics and its practice in fields as diverse as economics, education, science, athletics, finance, law, and management. At the heart of the program, a two-semester practicum course combines pedagogy with supervised consulting and integrated group projects with government/industry partners, centered around a focus on the developing role of statisticians in the world of data science. More information on the MSSP program can be found here.MS in Statistical Practice (MSSP)
The BA/MA program offers students with a strong academic record the opportunity to complete a BA and an MA as part of a joint program, while potentially taking fewer courses than if the two degrees were completed separately. Students can choose to complete this program either in Mathematics or in Statistics. More information on the BA/MA program can be found under Undergraduate Degree Programs.BA/MA in Mathematics
