Our Department, BU, and external agencies recognize student achievement in a variety of ways.
BU offers a variety of Fellowships to incoming PhD students, including the BU Dean’s Fellowship, funded by the Dean of the BU Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Clare Boothe Luce Graduate Fellowship, funded by the Henry Luce Foundation, and the Martin Luther King, Jr Fellowship. There are also a number of external fellowships available to our students as well, including the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, the Hertz Fellowship, the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship, the Jane Street Graduate Research Fellowship, and the Office of Science Graduate Student Research Program. BU also offers the Lu Lingzi Scholarship, in honor of Lu Lingzi, a Master’s student in Statistics whose life life was tragically cut short by the Boston Marathon bombing attack. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics provides Departmental Travel Grants to a limited number of graduate students each year to support travel to, and participation in, conferences and workshops. Students from historically excluded groups are strongly encouraged to apply for these funds.Departmental Travel Grants
Inclusion Catalyst Grants support creative, collaborative initiatives that generate learning and stimulate efforts to foster inclusive and equitable communities at Boston University.
