William J. Tomlinson, Ph.D., is the director of the Software & Application Innovation Lab (SAIL), at Boston University (BU) where he is responsible for overseeing the operations and long-term plans of SAIL, working closely with the director of the Hariri Institute for Computing, to integrate SAIL software engineering appropriately throughout the spectrum of research projects and programs at the university. Prior to joining BU, Tomilson held the roles of Principal Engineer and Group Leader (Technical Manager) at Draper of Cambridge, MA, where he demonstrated proficiency in technical leadership, business development, strategic planning, and program management. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University and an M.S. and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University and North Carolina A&T State University, respectively.
