Wenkang An was chosen as a Hariri Graduate Fellow in June, 2017. He is a PhD candidate in the Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory supervised by Hariri Institute Steering Committee member Barbara Shinn-Cunningham, within the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He received his bachelor and master degrees in Electrical/Biomedical Engineering from Hong Kong. His research explores how cortical activities or neural networks in human brain are modulated to selectively amplify one particular sound stream while suppressing the others (selective attention). His work contributes to our understanding of the cocktail party problem, and may reveal some neural correlates of individual differences in hearing ability.
